And now that we have a few vaccines that have proven their effectiveness and are even being administered to people around the world, some people are sceptical about the vaccine, in the US and other parts of the world.
To instill faith and confidence in the vaccine, US President-elect Joe Biden received a COVID-19 vaccine live on television on Monday. The 78-year old was administered the jab of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine that has been cleared for use in the UK, US, Canada and several other nations around the world.
The television broadcast of him taking the vaccine. took place at the Christina Hospital in Newark, Delaware. Reports by the presidential transition team have revealed that his wife, Jill has received her shot earlier.

In a tweet, Biden expressed how there is nothing to worry about. He said, ¡°Today, I received the COVID-19 vaccine. To the scientists and researchers who worked tirelessly to make this possible ¡ª thank you. We owe you an awful lot. And to the American people ¡ª know there is nothing to worry about. When the vaccine is available, I urge you to take it.¡±
Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris and her husband are scheduled to get vaccinated next week. Serving vice president Mike Pence and his wife have also received their vaccinations last week.
Serving president Donald Trump has not yet participated in the vaccination drive, neither has his wife, Melania Trump. Both of them had contracted COVID-19 a few months back.
However, post the vaccination, Biden lauded the efforts of the current administration to help with the speedy development and release of the vaccine that will help save people¡¯s lives, "The administration deserves some credit getting this off the ground. I'm doing this to demonstrate that people should be prepared when it's available to take the vaccine."
