After find the full moon in conjunction with Saturn and Jupiter earlier this month, star gazers have another magnificent event to look forward to.?
Perseid meteor shower is expected to peak between August 11 and 12 this year. Perseids are one of the brightest batches of shooting stars and among the most popular ones. They are mostly visible between July 17 and August 24.?
They are usually visible during this time of the year as the Earth drifts through a debris cloud left behind by the giant comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle.
The reason why Perseid showers are so popular is because they are one of the strongest showers with up to 100 visible meteors per hour on average and they coincide with warm summer nights in the northern hemisphere.

For watching the showers,?NASA notes, ¡®The last-quarter moon will interfere with visibility of most fainter Perseid meteors this year, but you'll still be able to see a few brighter ones, including the occasional "fireball." The best time to look is in the pre-dawn hours on Aug. 12, but midnight to dawn any morning the week before or after should produce a few meteors. The Perseids generally appear to radiate from a point high in the north, called the "radiant." But you need only point yourself generally toward the north and look up¡¯.?
When you look up to watch the meteors in a cloudless sky, give your eyes time to adjust to the dark. Also by mid-August there will not be a lot of moon light in the sky so there are high chances of catching a glimpse of the meteors though they will be past the peak.?
