Old age is mostly associated with feeling down and slowing down your life out of necessity rather than choice.
We often see elderly people talking on walks in the park, but it is unusual to see an old man lifting weights in a gym¡ªnot just an old man, but a man who is 100 years old. Sounds unbelievable, right? But it's not; it's a real story.
A man who is 100 years old loves working out and lifts weights every day. He is now sharing his secret to this healthy life. Here's what he said.
The 100-year-old man, who is identified as Les Savino and is a resident of Hanover, Pennsylvania, says that he loves working out and has been following the same routine for over 40 years.
He goes to the gym five out of seven days a week, lifts weights, and does cardio. Savino wakes up early every morning to complete his workout routine in the gym, which takes about three hours, from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
And he has been doing the same thing since 1983, which is 40 years. Not only does he work out, but he is also very strict about the food he eats and prefers not to rely on any western medicines or drugs; as a matter of fact, he prefers eating lots of vegetables and seafood.
"I don¡¯t feel like going now that I¡¯m 100, but I still go. I know that it¡¯s necessary if I want to enjoy life. Most people at 100 no longer enjoy life. My days are just as normal as when I was 30. Exercise is much better than medicine¡ A lot of people just live on pills, but I don¡¯t. I take pills for high blood pressure and that¡¯s the extent of it," Savino said in a TODAY.com report.
In the gym, Savino has a set routine. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, he lifts weights, where he uses 15 weight machines in total and does 45 reps on each day, which as a result amounts to close to 700 reps per session.
On the remaining days, like Tuesday and Thursday, Savio leaves them for?cardio. He has been following the same routine in the gym, which is the Hanover Area YMCA, since last 40 years. He admits that working out makes him feel good, he also says that feels "much better leaving" than when he "arrived" at the gym. "I have more flexibility and I just feel more motivated with life," he says.?
It's not just all the working out; he also shared a few other tips that he makes sure not to miss out on to live a healthy?and active life. Eating good food is one of them.?Savino is not a fan of meat but instead prefers?seafood and vegetables. Spending time with people you love and loving what you do are also on his list.
