An incredible feat took place in Kerala recently.?11 women who are members of Haritha Karma Sena, the green army under the Parappanangadi Municipality, pooled Rs 250 to buy a lottery ticket, and to their surprise, ended up winning the whopping prize worth Rs 10 crore.
While lotteries are often a miracle for the winners and end up changing lives with a simple combination of numbers, this time the Kerala State Lottery meant more than just a lucky stroke and became a life-changing feat for the 11 women who decided to enter the raffle together.
Many of the women in the pact did not even have the luxury of carrying Rs. 25 in their purses. So, the group decided they would pool the meagre money needed to buy a ticket and put all their hopes in that one chance.
Well, as it turns out, they were indeed right to put all their hopes in that one chance they got because it led to them winning the jackpot worth Rs 10 crore. They were declared the winners of a big monsoon bumper prize of Rs 10 crore by the Kerala lottery Department after a draw that took place on Wednesday.??
Radha, who was the one who had bought the ticket for the lot after they had pooled the bucks, shared that this was not the first time the ladies had pooled money to buy a lottery ticket: "We have purchased lottery tickets before by pooling money. But this is the first time we have won a mega prize."
Another woman said she was really excited and couldn't wait for the draw results. But then someone told her that a ticket sold in a nearby place called Palakkad had won the first prize, and that made her feel somewhat disappointed.
The woman also said that the money they won would help them get through the hardships they had been facing in their individual lives: "The excitement and happiness knew no bounds when we finally came to know that we hit the jackpot. All of us are facing hardships in life, and the money will be a relief to some extent to solve our problems."
The prize came at the perfect time for the women, who were finding it difficult to manage their expenses. Given that the small salary they earned as members of the Haritha Karma Sena was the only money that supported their families.
