Going beyond the call of duty and showing utmost sincerity towards performing his duties, a cop in Bengaluru covered an open manhole without waiting for the civic authorities to do their job. The police constable also received laurels from his seniors for his presence of mind and averting a possible accident.?
The constable has been identified as Girish M and his picture has gone viral on social media after a passerby filmed him filling the pothole.
The incident took place on Sunday when the constable saw the uncovered manhole while he was driving his police jeep in Sector 3 of HSR layout, Bengaluru.?
According to the Times Of India, Girish spotted it when a woman and her daughter were walking very close to it. As soon as he saw that, he parked his jeep and got down to cover it up.?
By the next day, his picture went viral on social media and he got lauded by people and senior police officers, including Deputy Commissioner of Police, Isha Pant. According to a report, Girish said that it was his duty as a police officer to prevent any inconvenience caused to the public.

He also said that people should also be aware of the public hazard such things can cause and come forward without waiting for civic authorities to fix everything.
The constable hails from Shivamogga and was recruited in the police force in 2007. Girish also said that he read a piece of news and was moved by it. A constableĄ¯s daughter died of burn injuries and since then he decided to be more vigilant about social issues.?
"We should not wait for anyone if we see any public health hazard. People should volunteer themselves in attending to such problems,Ąą Girish told the Times Of India.
Girish set a prolific example of what it means to be a good citizen and a responsible police officer.?
In another instance, a BSF jawan heroically saved the life of a co-passenger, on a flight. This jawan was travelling in an Indian airlines when a man on flight started experiencing acute chest pains.
The BSF jawan who was off duty, came forward to help the man and saved his life. The offical page of BSF posted about the incident on Twitter.
The tweet reads, 'A #?????? is never off DutyĄ Swiftly acting to the inflight emergency response call for medical help to a passenger suffering from acute chest pain & breathlessness, Dr Lokeshwar Khajuria SMO #BSF provided all necessary medical help to co traveller & saved a precious human life.'
The tweet was accompanied by the image of the BSF jawan along with the civilian whose life he saved.
