A man took his love for spiciness to a whole new level after he broke a Guinness World Record by eating three Carolina Reaper chilli peppers in 8.72 seconds.
We aren't talking about any chillies here, we are talking about Carolina Reaper chillies, which are considered the world¡¯s hottest pepper.?
Gregory Foster, from California, US, created the record for the fastest time to eat three Carolina Reaper chillies at the Seaport Shopping Center in Downtown San Diego, as per Guinness World Records.?
In doing so, Foster broke the record held by Canadian pepper fan Mike Jack, who ate three Carolina Reapers in 9.72 seconds.
In his first attempt, he ended up eating six of the super-hot peppers, However, the attempt was disqualified because there was pepper matter in his mouth that had not been swallowed.
Forster was not going to let it slip for the second time. He ended up breaking the world record - as he ate three chillies in 8.72 seconds.?
"In practicing for an attempt like this it is more about mechanics and muscle memory, so I time myself eating small sweet peppers to get the chewing and swallowing down to automatic responses," Foster told Guinness World Records.??
The Carolina Reaper pepper has an average of 1,641,183 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), according to tests conducted by Winthrop University in South Carolina, USA.For context, a Jalape?o pepper registers around 2,500 - 8,000 SHU, Guinness reported.?
Incidentally, Foster?also holds the record for the?most Carolina Reaper chillies eaten in one minute,?which has stood for over five years.??
