Here¡¯s How People Are Coming Together to Help Victims ofHindu-Muslim Riots in Delhi
Twenty people, including a Delhi Police head constable, havedied so far in the riots that broke out on 24th February in Maujpurand Jafrabad areas of Delhi¡¯s North East district.
Since then there have been incidents of stone-pelting,houses, factories and entire slums being burnt, violence against protestors,and incidents of targeted violence against people from the Muslim community.
Several reporters narrated in first-person accounts how menwearing saffron tilaks raised ¡®Jai Shri Ram¡¯ slogans as they burned downvehicles and shops.
Amidst all the hatred, chaos and violence, some instances ofunity, love and brotherhood have emerged. Many have come together to step updonation camps for victims injured in the riots.
From Whatsapp, Facebook and Twitter, Good Samaritans areusing all channels to procure some of the most basic needs for people who havelost homes in the violence. From Sanitary pads, Diapers, Soaps, Dupattas,Blankets, Toothbrush you name it people are sending in Whatsapp forwards andtweeting out locations where you can drop these items for the victims.

The help for victims is not just limited to India, peopleliving out of the country are doing their bit too, a Go Fund Me page set up byIndians in the US appeals for help, ¡®We are collecting money to help Delhi riot victims. All the money woulddirectly benefit the victims of the riots and local personals onsite in Delhiwould help the people in need with food/shelter/medication and other thingsthat is necessary at this time.¡¯
Apart from donations, ?during the clashes, residents of the affectedhelped each other selflessly. Residents of Yamuna Vihar formed a human chainto ensure that school children are escorted safely amidst violence.
Many Gurudwara managements in the area made adequatearrangements for accommodation and langar fort the affected people. The Sikhcommunity in North Delhi, including a Gurdwara in Majnoo Ka Tila offered tohelp the injured and the needy on Monday, February 24.
In Seelampur, Dalits blocked the roads against aggressivemobs and secured the area to give shelter to their Muslim neighbours.
According to a report by India Today, even a local BJP wardcouncillor from Yamuna Vihar came forward to help a Muslim family. The reportstates that long-time friend of the family, came to the rescue and preventedthe mob from causing harm.
Delhi may be festered in anti ¨CMuslim and CAA violence at butits these gestures that give us hope and faith even in difficult times.
