A student in Louisiana, New Orleans, U.S., left mouths gaping when he applied to over 200 colleges and got over 125 offers back from colleges and universities all over the country. Dennis Barnes was not just a popular choice on college applications but he was the star student who was offered over $9 million (Over Rs 73 Crore) in scholarships.
It is believed that Barnes has broken a record in the country. Well, it was not a coincidence that Barnes found his mailbox flooded with bundles of brochures and offers. He scored a whopping 4.98 cumulative average on his school exams. That is not the end of his long list of achievements.
Barnes, fondly called Maliq by his friends and family, is part of the National Honor Society at his school, the International High School of New Orleans. Barnes is also fluent in Spanish. He received an official stamp from the Instituto Cervantes, a non-profit set up by the Government of Spain.
The popular high school graduate is actually just 16 years old as he was promoted early to 10th and 11th grade. Being younger than his peers, Barnes has been enrolled in the Southern University of New Orleans for the past years to earn extra credits while also completing his high school diploma.?
Even though Barnes is already a beacon of hope for students around the country, Barnes is far from his peak. He has yet to announce which university he will be attending and has given his eager fans a heads-up that he will be announcing his final decision by May 2. Even after breaking the record, Barnes is still not satiated.?
While the offers are still pouring in, Barnes wants to reach $10 million in scholarships by the end of the month. He has big dreams for his college degree once he passes high school on May 24. Barnes wants to pursue a dual undergraduate degree in computer science and criminal justice once he decides which university he wants to attend.?
According to Barnes, his success was not a fluke but a precisely planned feat, ¡°The road to a successful future is to plan ahead, network with the collegiate partners, and know that If you can see your vision, you can achieve your goal.¡±
Dennis Barnes broke a fleet of records when he got these offers from hundreds of different universities. The last student to hold the flame was Normandie Cormier from Lafayette High School. In 2019, she received over $8.7 million in scholarships and became a star achiever.
