The school bus driver hits the jackpot! A Kentucky school bus driver, James Keown, has gladly quit his job following a big lottery win. Having dedicated over a decade to the Jefferson County Public Schools, he's now set to enjoy a well-deserved retirement vacation.
Things in James¡¯ life took a turn for the better when he purchased a Powerball ticket for the Kentucky Lottery, and remarkably, four of his white ball numbers turned out to be a perfect match.?That won him an epic lottery prize of $50,000 (Rs 41 lakhs). However, his luck hadn¡¯t run out just yet.
With a bit of wit, Keown managed to 2x his winnings with a power play. He recounted, "I looked at it four times¡ that number¡¯s got to change, but it didn¡¯t. I thought I better see what I won."
He recalled the moment his life changed completely. "The first time, I saw I won $50,000, and then I thought, Wait a minute, I play the multiplier all the time, so I went back, and the multiplier was two."
And with that, the?bus driver?wasted no time switching gears in his life and calling up his boss. "I called my boss on Sunday, and I told him, ¡®I hit the lottery and I¡¯m not coming back¡¯¡ I loved my job, but I¡¯d been thinking about retiring for a while," he explained.
James's wife, Monta, is ecstatic about his win and its implications for both of them. However, owing to taxes, James won't be receiving the entire $100K lottery prize. After deductions, his winnings amount to $71,500 (Rs 59 lakhs). Adding to the deductions, the Circle K store where James bought the winning ticket will also get to keep 1 percent of the prize, which amounts to $1,000.
However, James has already sorted out his plans for the future. He has expressed his wish to use this money to support local cat rescue shelters as a cat lover. The couple also plans to purchase a lake house and spend the rest of their lives in peace together.
