Daniel Refitt of Union told Kentucky Lottery officials he was about to buy a Fast Play ticket from the vending machine at Meijer on Houston Road in Florence. Still, he changed his mind at the last minute and purchased a Precious Metals Titanium scratch-off ticket instead.

"I was about to press the button to purchase the Fast Play ticket when I thought, 'Never mind,' and purchased the other ticket," Refitt explained. While still at the store, Refitt disclosed the $500,000 price and chose to share his good fortune with several nearby store employees.

"I saw a few guys sitting down and gave them each $100 and told them, 'Merry Christmas,'" he said. Refitt stated that some of his money would be used to pay off his debts.
