The Virginia man claimed he was cleaning out his van when he discovered a Powerball ticket for $100,000.

Douglas Herbert told Virginia Lottery authorities that he was cleaning out his truck at his Richmond home lately when he discovered a few lottery tickets and decided to check them.

One of them, a Powerball ticket for the June 14 drawing, was a $100,000 winner.

"I shook my head. "I had to double-check," Herbert explained. "It's going to take some time to sink in."

The ticket, purchased at Chubby's on Henrico's New Market Road, matched four white balls and the Powerball number. Herbert chose the Power Play option, which increased the value of the $50,000 prize to $100,000.

A similar incident occurred when a woman in Maryland stopped on her way home from collecting a lottery win and purchased a Pick 5 ticket, which earned her an additional $50,000.

Victoria Sadler, 59, of Nottingham, alerted Maryland Lottery officials that she would visit Royal Farms on Washington Boulevard in Baltimore after winning a progressive jackpot in the Fast Play Home Run Riches Second-Chance drawing.

For her grandson's birthday, Sadler purchased a Pick 5 ticket. The identical numbers earned her a $25,000 prize last year. The grandson's birthday numbers were even luckier the second time, winning a $50,000 prize.
