It has been six months since the coronavirus-induced pandemic put our lives on hold in many ways, and led to a lot of us to working from home. It felt comfortable at first, but is now becoming a huge reason for us to feel completely burnt out. Working hours are taking over personal hours and the fact that one is almost always available for meetings and calls has taken a huge toll on us.
To curb the issue of employees feeling saturated with work, Google has decided to grant its workers an extra day off to avoid burnout. The company has introduced a Friday day-off as a one-time paid holiday for the "collective well-being" which will be applied to both employees and interns.

According to a CNBC report, the internal forum for employees read, 'We strongly encourge you to take this day off ¡ª and managers should actively support their team to reprioritize work commitments in order to do so'.
It also provides for people to take an alternate day off, in case they need to work on a Friday.
The forum said, 'If your manager identifies an urgent business-critical need that requires you to work at the last minute, you should take the next available working day off instead'.
Since not all employees of the company will be able to take a day off, like support teams and customer services, those groups will be given the chance to 'explore something similar' to make sure that they also get the time off they deserve for working through such a difficult time.?
This has created quite a stir on social media, with employees of other companies wanting the same protocol to be followed by their employers.?
I hope my boss reads this.
