From magnificent mountain ranges to arid deserts, rivers and waterfalls to forests and grasslands, India has a varied and spectacular landscape.?
The country has numerous terrains for trekking, all leading to jaw-dropping scenery and beauty. India is also home to some of the dangerous treks in the world although that doesn't stop enthusiasts from exploring these treacherous sights. And they are definitely not for the faint-hearted.?
One such trek is to the Kalavantin Durg in the Western Ghats near the Prabalgad Fort in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. Located at an astonishing altitude of 701 metres (2,300 feet) above sea level, the trek is unlike any other.?
The legend has it that world's most dangerous fortress, as it known, was constructed in honour of a Queen Kalavantin.?
Offering stunning views 每 via rugged terrain with narrow rock-cut steps, steep slopes and no support whatsoever 每 the trek to and from the fortress is perilous?yet fascinating.

The journey?to the summit starts from the base point in the village of Thakurwadi. The trek to Kalavantin Durg and the Prabalgad Fort, though, takes only about a little over three hours, it requires a tremendous level of concentration?and overcoming steep hurdles.?
As it is only accessible by zigzag stairs carved into the edges of the rocky mountains, with no guard rails or ropes, it makes the trek ever so difficult.?

The trail gets notably steeper as you make the move upwards to the top, and there is a sense of vertigo-inducing on the way up 每 though this doesn*t deter those in pursuit of heart-pounding adventure.
Higher and higher 每 complete with undulating terrain, rocky patches and waterfalls gushing down the steps 每 the trail gets even more treacherous until climbers finally reach the pinnacle of the Kalavantin Durg, witness the bird*s eye view and forget all about the arduous ascent.??
While the journey?takes its toll and could be life-threating, the jaw-dropping views and beautiful scenery on the way up makes the trek all the more worthwhile.?
