A posh eatery in New York has come under fire for allegedly discriminating against Asian customers. According to a New York Post report, Annie, a TikToker, has condemned the restaurant One if by Land, Two if by Sea for having separate seating for Asian diners on the second floor, separating them from those on the first floor.
"Let's cut to the chase: One if by Land, Two if by Sea racially discriminates against nonwhite people, particularly Asians," the Post quoted the TikTok user saying.
The Post reports that Annie, an Asian, alleged in the video that when she and her boyfriend recently went to the restaurant, they were told to sit on the second floor.
According to Annie, the vibe on the second floor is missing compared to the first floor's mosaic-covered walls, lit by natural light.
She also displayed a comparison between the first and second floors of the restaurant using a Yelp image of the first floor.
"I want to preface by saying I have no issue dining with other Asian people. I don't care. What I do care about, and have an issue with, is people of color being separated from white people by white people in higher-end establishments," Annie said in the TikTok video.?
"This restaurant has been doing this for seven years," Annie says as she concludes her video on TikTok.
The restaurant was founded in 1973, according to its website. There have reportedly been more engagement official announcements here than at any other restaurant in Manhattan.
The restaurant has not yet responded to the charges.
