By now we're all aware of the sad conditions in which animals are kept in at zoos. Every day, there's either a viral video or a photo that proves this point.?After all, these wild animals were never meant to live inside cages.
Recently, a heart-wrenching video, reportedly from China, sheds more light on the conditions of these animals?who are kept in zoos, a place?where they barely have any room to walk let alone run.?
The video that is now viral shows a captive tiger, apparently depressed, walking non-stop, endlessly in circles inside its enclosure. A circular mark can be seen etched on the ground as the tiger barely has any place to walk.?
The footage shows a? white Bengal tiger going round and round as tourists overlook the enclosure from a walkway above. The video is allegedly from a Beijing zoo.?
According to one report the Beijing Zoo said that the tiger had been given ¡®psychological counselling¡¯ after its keepers 'noticed the strange behaviour at the end of March¡¯.?
The video that has over 10 million views, shows the seemingly depressed wild cat pacing in the same unchanged path. Some horrified animal lovers commented online: ¡®There is not enough room [for the tiger]. It¡¯s ill, mentally ill,¡¯ while another one said, ¡®The tiger looks depressed.¡¯
The Beijing Zoo reportedly responded by saying that the video wasn¡¯t filmed recently as the big cat was taken away from display at the end of March after the zookeepers noticed its strange behaviour.
¡°This kind of behaviour is expected after animals have stayed in a zoo for a long time,¡± Daily Mail quotes a staff member telling the press.?
The tiger, according to the zoo, had been given ¡®psychological counselling¡¯ to help it return to ¡®normal¡¯.
¡®We have taken the animal to receive behaviour training. We also brought more food and toys for the tiger. It¡¯s like ¡°psychological counselling,¡±' the zookeeper was reported as saying.?
The video is indeed quite distressing as it highlights the fact that these animals are being kept in cages against their will and are not even receiving the proper care that they deserve.
