In the midst of it, a heartbreaking video of an Afghan girl talking about how the world abandoned her country is going viral on the internet. In the video posted to Twitter by Iranian journalist and activist Masih Alinejad, this young girl can be seen in floods of tears as she thinks about the situation.
Looking directly at the camera, she says: "We don't count because we were born in Afghanistan.?"I cannot help crying. I have to wipe my tears to be able to make this video.?No one cares about us. We'll die slowly in history. Isn't it funny?"
The journalist captioned the post saying, "Tears of a hopeless Afghan girl whose future is getting shattered as the Taliban advance in the country.My heart breaks for women of Afghanistan. The world has failed them. History will write this."
Since the footage was posted on social media, it has really struck a chord with some, who have said they are utterly shocked at what they are witnessing. Many even sympathised with the women and the country of Afghanistan.?
This video comes as the Taliban cemented its control of Afghanistan, with President Ashraf Ghani fleeing the country.
Ghani released a message to Afghanis explaining why he left the country before militants could seize control of the Presidential Palace.The world leader explained he faced a 'hard decision' between an 'armed Taliban' and 'leaving the dear country that I dedicated my life to protecting the past 20 years'.?
He said: "If left unchecked, countless patriots would be martyred and the city of Kabul would be devastated, resulting in a major humanitarian catastrophe in the six-million-strong city."
