In yet another shocking and miraculous IVF procedure, a 68-year-old Nigerian woman gave birth to twins after the fourth IVF attempt.?
According to a?CNN?report, the woman named?Margarett Adenuga gave birth to the children - a boy and a girl - by cesarean at a hospital in Lagos on April 14, and is reported to be doing well.? ??
Her husband Noah Adenuga, 70, revealed that she fell pregnant last year via IVF after three previous rounds of treatment failed. He said that they never gave up hope and it turned out positive after a lot of struggle.?
He told Nigeria's TVC News that the couple was inspired to keep going by a dream he had in 1996 that told him he would be 'known across the world.'??
The retired stock auditor told CNN, "I am a dreamer, and I was convinced this particular dream of ours will come to pass."
The babies were delivered via caesarian section at 37 weeks at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) but the hospital only recently made the news public to give the first-time mother time to recuperate, it said.
Dr. Adeyemi Okunowo, who delivered the babies, told CNN a specialist team was assembled at the hospital to monitor the pregnancy because of her age.
"As an elderly woman and a first-time mother, it was a high-risk pregnancy and also because she was going to have twins but we were able to manage her pregnancy to term," Okunowo told CNN.
IVF involves fertilised eggs being implanted into a woman's womb and it is used to overcome a range of issues than can make it hard for couples to conceive naturally.??
Last year, a 73-year-old woman from Andhra Pradesh became pregnant through IVF and doctors delivered the twin babies via caesarian.
