Phone bills are sometimes excessive for no reason at all. Here's what happened to a woman who travelled from Delhi to Bihar!
During a visit to Bihar, Delhi-based novelist Neha Sinha was reportedly slammed with an excessive?phone?bill and had her services unexpectedly cut by Airtel, leaving her stuck in the Valmiki Nagar border area.
Sinha recounted her ordeal on social media, claiming that Airtel charged her almost Rs 1 lakh for international roaming, despite the fact that she was in India.
"What a nasty con! I'm in Bihar's Valmiki Nagar. Airtel India has sent me a roaming fee in the amount of Rs 1L+. I am an?Indian citizen living on Indian land. Airtel suspends my connection despite the fact that I have no overdue bills. She tweeted, "Leaving me stranded!"
Sinha requested help from the Department of Telecommunications and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, citing the unfair situation she was in. Her later tweets highlighted the possible dangers to women's safety posed by such abrupt service cuts without valid justifications or warnings.?
When Sinha attempted to settle the situation with Airtel, she allegedly received a discouraging response. "When I borrowed a phone to call Airtel, they said there was nothing they could do because this is what the 'system' had logged." Is the system a deity? "What is this system that abandons real people?" she wondered.?
Airtel allegedly requested Rs 1,792 for the restoration of her SIM card, causing Sinha to call the initial cutoff into doubt and condemn the customer service's "passive-aggressive" manner.?
Comments on the post noted that similar problems are common in border areas, and Sinha could consider making a complaint with the consumer court. Sinha stated her intention to take further action against Airtel for threatening her safety in a remote place, emphasising that her main issue was the abrupt discontinuation of services in a potentially dangerous circumstance.
Following that, Airtel apologised to Sinha for the difficulty caused. "Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience, Neha. "Please share your respective Airtel number via DM so that we can look into this as soon as possible," the telecom company's customer service handle answered on Twitter.?
