UP in India has been the epicentre of numerous bizarre viral moments. Topping that list is a recent theft that left people rather stumped. We have heard of mobile theft and even car theft, but people would hardly believe that there are robbers who have the bandwidth to steal a 50-metre-tall mobile tower.
The most shocking part of the tale is that this is not the first time someone has stolen a tower in India.
What Was Stolen?
Similar cases have been reported in Bihar since last year, when authorities noticed that similar herculean heists have been constant in the country. This time a 50-metre-tall mobile tower, weighing over 10 tonnes, was stolen in Uttar Pradesh.
When Did The Authorities Realise That The Tower Got Stolen?
Oddly enough, although a technician reported the incident to the police on Wednesday, November 29, the complaint indicated that the tower had been discovered missing on March 31. The police filed an FIR, citing IPC's Section 379 (theft), based on the technician's complaint.
The technician elaborated in the complaint that it wasn't just the tower missing but also a shelter, electrical fittings, and various other equipment constituting the mobile tower assembly, amounting to a value exceeding Rs 8.5 lakh.
Where Did The Theft Take Place?
The tower was stolen from Ujjain Village in Uttar Pradesh¡¯s Kaushambi district.
Who Reported The Theft?
In his complaint, Rajesh Kumar Yadav, the technician, mentioned that his company had installed a tower earlier in the year, specifically in January, in the field belonging to Ubid Ullah, located in Ujjaini village within the Kaushambi district.
Yadav mentioned that upon his inspection visit to the site on March 31, 2023, he discovered that the complete tower, along with all associated paraphernalia, had vanished without leaving any trace behind.
The thieves who stole the tower and the equipment have not been caught as of yet.
