In a shocking revelation, a Chinese circus in Tiandong County, Guangxi Province, faced closure after being exposed for allowing children to ride tigers for a fee.?
The circus's controversial practice involved charging 20 yuan (Rs. 235) for each photograph of a child sitting on the back of a tiger.
The alarming issue came to light when a video surfaced on social media on December 6, showing a young boy being lifted onto the back of an unrestrained tiger.?The tiger's hind legs were tied to a metal platform, raising concerns about the child's and animal's safety and well-being.
Despite the potentially dangerous circumstances, the circus reportedly did not sedate the tiger.?
The video depicted a disturbing scene where a person took photographs of the child while others eagerly awaited their turn in a long queue.
Just two days after the footage started circulating on Chinese social media, the Tiandong County Bureau of Culture, Sports, Radio, Television, and Tourism looked into the circus's procedures in response to the public outcry and concerns raised by the video.
The authorities revealed that the circus had been conducting "unauthorized performances" at Hengli Square in Tiandong County, as the South China Morning Post reported.?
In response to the investigation, the circus was immediately ordered to cease allowing children to ride tigers.
The incident has sparked outrage and condemnation, and further legal action is anticipated in this case. The incident highlights the need for stricter regulations and ethical considerations in treating animals in the entertainment industry.
