In a reported incident from Gurugram, a woman lost more than 30,000 rupees while attempting to buy a bottle of whisky?online. Unfortunately, her Google search led her to a scammer, causing her to lose her money.?
According to a TOI report, a 32-year-old woman from?Gurugram purchased a bottle of whisky online. She came across a phone number that claimed to offer doorstep alcohol delivery after failing to find a local wine delivery business via Google.?
What began as a basic search for a handy service turned into a series of transactions that resulted in a $33,000 financial loss to scammers.
According to the woman, after calling the stated number and paying 3,000 rupees for a bottle of Glenfiddich by UPI, she received a follow-up call asking for more payments for delivery.?
She chose to cancel the order after detecting a possible scam. Following that, the scammers demanded that she send Rs 5, guaranteeing a return, and provided a UPI transaction description that included a sequence of numbers and characters presented as a GST number.
The reimbursement of the Rs. 5 payment appeared to be effective at first. However, the woman soon received a message indicating a debit of $2,986 from her bank account.?
Disgusted by this development, she immediately contacted her bank and requested that the account be blocked. Despite her efforts to avoid downloading any suspicious applications that would compromise her phone's screen, Shekhawat learned via authorities that her account information had been compromised following the five transactions.?
The matter is currently being investigated by law enforcement officials, who suspect that the scam occurred during the transaction, possibly aided by a QR code transmitted by the crooks. The police have identified the phone number in question and are in the process of acquiring transaction information from the bank. Efforts are being undertaken to track down the accused, which has led detectives to Bharatpur.?
