For helmetless two-wheeler drivers in Manipur, life will not be as easy as paying the fine to traffic police and moving on. Manipur police has devised an innovative method to punish the riders without helmets.
Bikers in Manipur caught by the police are being forced to physically push their vehicles for a considerable distance at the end of which they are treated with toffees by the police (WHAAAAAA...?)?
Along with toffees, the bikers are being given counselling on the importance of wearing a helmet and the perils of not wearing one.?

According to reports, this innovative method to sensitise bikers started at Chuurachandpur district quite recently.?
If during a counseling, it was found that the offender possessed a helmet but chose not to wear it, they were made to wear it DURING the session and then counseled about its importance and safety.?
The cops in Manipur came up with this method as the traditional method of fining huge amounts did not really seem to be working and repeat offenders were still riding bikes without helmets.?
Whether this method will have any serious impact or not, only time will tell, but offering sweets instead of fine to bikers is a completely unheard of idea. Hope that sweetens up the drivers.?
