Imagine being fined a hefty amount for parking in your own driveway! Sounds absurd, right? Well, it happened to a man from Coventry, England when he was slapped with a fine of more than??2,000 (Rs 2 lakh) for parking in his own driveway.?
According to a report by Coventry Live, the man said he has been sent fine tickets and 'mounds of threatening letters' in less than three years for parking in a spot he has rented from a private landlord.?
He said he first encountered this problem when he once forgot to take out the parking permit inside his car.?He had contacted Mainstay Residential to get a new permit but was informed that no new permits were available and an exemption would be put in place for him.
However, the exemption was not taken into consideration by the UK Parking Control (UKPC), which kept issuing parking tickets against the man's vehicle.
The fines kept coming in even after he sold his car.?
Then, UKPC lost the parking contract and it was taken over by a private company.?
"I tried telling them about it, but they said they were sending the matter to their solicitors to deal with - even though they didn't tell me I needed a new permit," the man told Coventry Live.?
"There was absolutely no legal basis to it saying they're going to take me to court. So yeah, I just felt really stressed, really hopeless, it felt ridiculous," he said.
However, a spokesperson for?the property management company said that the fines have been scrapped.?
