A aircraft passenger stirred a debate on Reddit after refusing to let another passenger sit in the empty seat next to him.?
In a recent Reddit post published to the popular "Am I The A**hole?" forum, the passenger said that during a three-hour journey, he and his companion purchased the final seat in their row because it was her first time flying and she suffered from extreme social anxiety.
''This occurred during a three-hour flight. We were seated on the left side and paid an additional fee for the third seat in our row because my friend has severe social anxiety and this was her first time flying. She was sitting by the window, and I was sitting next to her, when this guy walked over and sat on the armrest of the unoccupied seat to talk (very loudly) to his relatives who were sitting on the opposite side. I immediately tapped him on the back and informed him that the seat was not available because we had paid for it," he wrote.? ?
However, this resulted in the man complaining "loudly" to his relatives and ''mocking'' him.?
"After that, he stood next to us in the aisle for the majority of the flight and kept being loud and very gestural (a member of the staff even told him to keep it down at one point) and leaned close to me with his ass, possibly to provoke me (I was sitting close to the aisle at that point because my friend was taking a nap and resting her legs in the middle),'' he said.
The Reddit poster said that the flight staff should have intervened because the passenger gave him ''nasty stares'' throughout the ride. He questioned other Redditors if he was mistaken.?
In reaction, several people defended him and commended him for maintaining his seat because he paid for it. One commenter wrote, ''You paid for it, and no amount of his complaining will change that."
?Another person responded, ''Nothing will ever change in your life unless you take action. This person was annoying you, thus you had the authority to inform a flight attendant to the situation. Cannot let individuals like him win because that is exactly what occurred.?
