A man who refused to switch his pre-booked, carefully selected seats with an "entitled" pregnant woman on an airline has drawn praise.?This recent incident, too, gave way to discussions about proper in-flight behaviour and expectations from fellow passengers.?
The man's decision led to a surge of comments on social media with some applauding his right to keep his seat and others denouncing what they saw as a lack of empathy. Here's what went on.
In the now-viral Reddit post, he revealed that he was travelling alone to see family over the holidays and that he had chosen an aisle seat close to the restroom with great care.?
"A woman begged me to give up my seat so she could sit closer to the restroom just before we boarded.?Despite being pregnant, she didn't appear upset," he wrote.
The post, "AITA (Am I the A**hole) and for not giving up my?airline?seat to a pregnant woman?" was uploaded on Reddit on December 15 by user u/michaeldonelly.?He clarified that he had to pay more since he occasionally needs "quick access to the bathroom" due to a medical condition.?
The user claimed that, as a result, he was unwilling to alter his seating arrangements.?
"I did not feel it was fair to demand I move from the seat I planned for and paid for, especially since she had not booked an aisle seat herself in advance," he stated in his post.?
The social media user also stated that there were no empty aisle seats available to accommodate the pregnant woman's request, and the flight attendants made no effort to assist them in resolving the problem.?
In closing, he said that his family supported her because they thought he ought to have "inconvenienced" himself.?
