Haven't all of us been denied a ride by our cab drivers over stupid reasons like there is no petrol or it's too far or it's too late? However stupid these might have been, we all swallowed them with a pinch of salt. But have you ever been denied a ride or dropped off midway because you had to go to a specific area?
Well, Asad Ashraf was.
Asad, a journalist based out of Delhi wasted no time and took this matter to Twitter to report the issue to the company and to Delhi police. In his statement, he mentioned how the driver threatened him to get down and called his people on him. He also mentioned that the driver harassed him by saying that Jamia Nagar "was not a place to go" as it was a ¡°Muslim colony.¡±?
After he was dropped, he initiated the complaint with OLA but got no response. The cab aggregator service also blocked his app until he rated the ride. All of this happened within minutes, leaving Asad stranded on the road, unable to book a cab for himself.?
However, it is then that his Twitter screenshot got a response from OLA. The company claims to have sacked the employee.?
This isn't the first time that Indian drivers associated with cab aggregators have shown their bigoted views out in public. Many have been harassed, molested and hurt because of their caste.?
