Strong winds caused Eric, 60, to veer off course as he tried to land over the well-known Bauges mountains in the vicinity of Chambery, France. He was eventually thrown into the thick forest below where he crashed horribly into trees.?
Eric searched for a safe place to land for several minutes as he was buffeted by the strong winds. He eventually found a spot, but when he did, he realised he had gone too low.?
Due to the turbulent winds, one of the fixed wings had partially closed, which led to him losing control. He ended up crashing into trees as a result. He recorded the collision with his bodycam.
Fortunately, he only sustained a tibia muscle injury on the inside.?
"I tried to land but was unable to because the weather was too strong for me. When I finally located a location without an updraft, I squatted too low. I persisted in trying to get to the landing pitch. I shouldn't have been there; it was dangerous there. I struggled to maintain good kite control because I was so worn out," Eric remembered.?
"It happened very quickly, I didn't understand anything, and I don't recall ever being truly terrified. It moved too quickly," he added.
In the end, he claimed that a similar collision with a cliff or rocky area could have been fatal.?
