In today's edition of 'things that happen only in Uttar Pradesh,' a bride allegedly called off her wedding after the groom kissed her in front of 300 guests.
The incident took place in Sambhal district on Tuesday, November 29. The groom kissed the bride after the couple exchanged garlands. The bride, however, didn't take it well and walked off from the dais and later called the police.?
The woman, 23, claimed that the groom wanted to win a bet with his friends and now she is 'doubtful about his character'. The wedding was eventually called off and the guests returned home.
After the police arrived at the venue, both parties were taken to the police station where the bride also alleged that the groom touched her inappropriately but she ignored it.??
She said then he kissed her and she was shocked and felt insulted. She went on to say that he didn't care about her self-respect and acted badly in front of the guests. "How would he act in the future? I have decided not to go with him," she was quoted as saying.?
Both parties said they will wait for a few days to let the dust settle.
The bride's mother said that her daughter doesn't want to go with him. She said they tried to convince her, but she didn't agree. As a result, families have decided to wait a few days and let her take some time.
Shedding light on the incident, Bahjoi station house officer (SHO) Pankaj Lavania, under whose jurisdiction the case falls, said that technically the couple is married as the rituals were done?by the time the incident happened. But she rejected the groom.
Lavania further added that they?will decide what to do after waiting for a couple of days for things to cool down.?
Reports have emerged recently of weddings being cancelled over what many would call trifles.?Last month, a? woman in Uttarakhand called off her wedding because?she was not given a "mehanga-lehenga" (costly wedding attire).
The bride threw a fit when she discovered that the lehenga the groom's family had purchased for her cost "only" Rs. 10,000. However, the groom's family claimed they purchased the lehenga "exclusively" from Lucknow.
All the wedding preparations?were completed on the big day, November 5.?The girl lost her calm and refused to marry the boy when she saw the lehenga that the groom had brought.? ?
