Bride Calls Off Wedding After GroomĄ¯s Family Sends Her 'Cheap' Lehenga
Indian weddings are high on emotion and drama. No matter if you're attending the wedding as a guest or a family member, there will never be a shortage of drama.
Brides and grooms are known for their endless shenanigans. This one, though, went too far.
A girl from Haldwani in Uttarakhand refused to marry her fiance because she was not given a "mehanga-lehenga" (costly wedding attire).
According to local accounts, a girl from Haldwani's Rajpura neighborhood was already engaged.
The bride threw a fit when she discovered that the lehenga the groom's family had purchased for her cost "only" Rs. 10,000.
However, the groom's family claimed they purchased the lehenga "exclusively" from Lucknow.
As per a report in The New Indian Express, the girl's marriage was prearranged with a Ranikhet-based boy who works in the healthcare profession.
In June, the couple got engaged. Cards were created and distributed for the wedding, which was slated for November 5th.
All the wedding preparations were completed on the big day, November 5. The girl lost her calm and refused to marry the boy when she saw the lehenga that the groom had brought.
As per local reports, the groom's father even gave the girl his ATM card to purchase the lehenga of her preference. That, too, was futile. The matter eventually reached the police. But still, no solution was found.
After hours of furious debate, the issue was brought to the attention of the Kotwali police, and the two fighters finally reached an amicable solutionĄĒIt was "all over," and the marriage was terminated for both parties.
Police in Haldwani made frantic attempts to settle the conflict, but they failed. The two parties understood that it would be best to part ways following disputes in the presence of two senior police officials.
