UP Man Fired For Putting Up His "Idol" Osama Bin Laden's Poster In Office

On Tuesday, a top official at Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) said that an SDO was fired because he was said to have had a picture of terrorist Osama bin Laden on his desk.

After an investigation, it was suggested that Ravindra Prakash Gautam be let go from UPPCL, and chairman M. Devraj followed through with the decision.

Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam, MD Amit Kishore, told PTI that the investigation revealed that Gautam had once referred to the Al-Qaeda leader as his "idol" and had placed a photograph of him in his workplace.

The SDO was dismissed from service on Monday.

According to a senior departmental officer, Gautam put up the picture when he was posted in Kayamganj Subdivision-II of Farrukhabad district in June 2022.?The Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam fired the SDO and started an investigation after a video of his office room went viral.

A report from Farrukhabad quoting electricity department employees stated that Gautam idolized Bin Laden as he was an engineer by degree.

Ravindra Prakash Gautam, sub-divisional officer (SDO) with the Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (DVVNL), placed a picture of Laden in his office, with a note below it that read “Respected Osama bin Laden, world’s best junior engineer”, the officials said.?

After Laden’s picture with the message went viral on social media, senior district officials took cognizance and ordered SDO’s suspension. The image of Laden was also removed from the office, they said.?
