Two prisoners in the US state of Virginia dug themselves out of their cell with a toothbrush, went to a local pancake restaurant, and were caught a few hours later.
According to a statement released by the Newport News Sheriff's Office, two inmates went missing during a routine headcount at the Newport News Detention Annex on Monday evening.
They could scale the high wall of the jail after breaking through it. John M. Garza, age 37, and Arley V. Nemo, age 43, are the prisoners' names.
Diners who recognized the fugitives alerted the police. Officers from the Hampton Police Department arrived at the IHOP and placed both suspects under arrest without any struggle. The sheriff expressed gratitude to the community for assisting in the arrest of the escaped prisoners.
For many offences, including contempt of court, violating the conditions of his supervision, and failing to appear in court, Garza was sentenced to jail.?
