You know how anything can trend on Twitter? Well, if you have been active on Twitter this past week you would know that for some unfathomable reason #jhumkatwitter and #paghditwitter had been trending on 8-9th July. Why? We have absolutely no clue. While women were posting their pretty pictures in jhumkas on Twitter, men posted theirs in pagdis. There were also some women who posted some fun pictures in pagdis.
?
When that trend started dying down the next trend popped up: #kurtatwitter.?
For random reason - actually for no reason at all - men and women started posting their pictures in kurtas and kurtis hashtagging it #kurtatwitter. While a lot of people seemed to be enjoying this, there were others who asked people to stop posting their pictures in jhumkas and paghadis and kurtas, because the space isn't Instagram.
It is true that Instagram is like the ¡®official¡¯ space to post your pictures, but what the hell right? Its social media.?
?
Now the #kurtatwitter posts started emerging around July?12 and they are still going on, and in response or as a follow up to that, what is trending on Twitter right now is *drum rolls please* #sareetwitter.?
?
Women in India, actually from other countries true and filling up Twitter with their gorgeous pictures in sarees and the trend is really taking up. Some are posting pictures from their weddings, farewells, family functions while other just from their daily lives.?
?
Women seem glad for the trend as some have commented that it has given them an opportunity to celebrate this ethnic wear and well, just given them a reason to revisit their saree memories. While saree is a daily wear for a lot of women, some wear it occasionally and others have worn it just once or twice in their lives. A woman posted a picture of her son captioning it ¡®why should women have all the fun¡¯ and the little boy is in a saree. What is cool about these trends is that most of them are gender neutral, especially #kurtatwitter.?
Even known figures like Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Renuka Shahane joined the trend and posted their pictures in Sarees on Twitter hashtagging it #sareetwitter.?
Twitterati seem annoyed with these trends and we can¡¯t say we do not understand. No judging, but there are some other similar trends in this list. One is #binditwitter and the most unbelievable one is #chappaltwitter. We are not kidding you. People are just posting pictures of their chappals on twitter.
Just like everything else, the trend has inspired quite a lot of memes too.?
Even though a part of our mind also says ¡®kuch bhi¡¯ after coming across these trends, we absolutely support people freedom of expression when it is not hurting anyone, and people involved seem to be enjoying this so who are we to judge??
