However, her defense attorney argued that she was merely researching her case to understand evidence processing and that there was no evidence of guilt.
During the hearing, Amy Richins, the deceased's sister, gave a victim impact statement, expressing her anguish over the circumstances of Eric Richins' death and the defendant's actions afterward.
Before finding him in that state, she claimed to have given him a mixed vodka drink. The medical examiner later determined that Eric Richins had died from a fentanyl overdose, with a dosage five times the lethal amount in his system.
