Losing your job, which pays your bills, is a frightening situation. The worry grows when termination occurs unexpectedly and without previous notice.?
A Reddit member recently expressed their distress on social media after experiencing a similar situation.?
The Reddit user, qirad, said that the employer made the decision when the individual was unable to be to work on time due to a delay in trying to save someone's life.
One morning, the woman was on her way to work when a fellow commuter in the opposite side of her train carriage experienced a medical emergency.?
With an up-to-date First Aid + CPR certification, she didn't hesitate to assist, despite being in her work uniform. After successfully administering CPR and ensuring the individual was breathing again, she cooperated with the arriving paramedics and police, providing a statement regarding the incident.?
Due to the presence of a "biohazard" on the train, the service was canceled, causing her an additional hour of wait time. She promptly informed her workplace about the delay, expecting understanding given the circumstances.?
However, upon arrival at work, she found herself summoned to a meeting with her boss and HR.?
Despite presenting evidence, including details of the police officer and screenshots from the station's website confirming the incident, she was unexpectedly terminated on the grounds that providing CPR in uniform created a "negative image" for the company.
In response to the termination, she expressed her frustrations on a platform, receiving an unexpected outpouring of support. Encouraged by many to share her story with the news, she contacted local news stations.?
While one declined after she requested anonymity, another expressed interest and scheduled a phone interview for the following day.?
Despite suggestions to pursue legal action, she explained that labor laws in her country, as a casual worker, provided limited recourse against unjust termination.?
She chose not to disclose the name of her workplace, a local high-end technology retailer, for privacy reasons.
