Soon, Delhi will have the biggest mall in India at Delhi Aerocity, near the Indira Gandhi International Airport. Aerocity is already known for its hotels and restaurants and is conveniently located between Delhi and Gurugram's business areas. According to The Times of India, this mall is part of a $2.5 billion expansion project called Worldmark Aerocity. The mall is expected to be ready in three years, with the entire project to be completed in two phases over five years.
Worldmark Aerocity aims to create India's first aerotropolis, a city centered around an airport. The project will expand Aerocity from its current 1.5 million square feet of leasable space to over 10 million square feet by 2029. Bharti Realty, awarded the development by GMR-backed Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), holds the lease for Aerocity, in alignment with DIAL's lease for airport development and operations, while the state retains ownership.
