At a time when the AI boom is already riding high, with each day bringing new innovations, beverages and snacks maker PepsiCo too is betting big on artificial intelligence.?AI is in fact helping Pepsico perfect the flavour of cheetos.
Athina Kanioura, PepsiCo's chief strategy and transformation officer, recently told ET that AI is helping Pepsi develop and launch products faster. PepsiCo, which is known for brands like Pepsico soft drinks, Tropicana juices, and Lays potato chips, is getting AI¡¯s help in various areas including productivity, marketing, feedback analysis, customer service, etc.
Using Cheetos as an example, Kanioura said that GenAI assisted the company in achieving the "perfect shape and flavor" by taking feedback from customers. This tactic increased sales while ensuring profitability. She stated, "We saw a 15% increase in market penetration with GenAI," pointing to possible earnings increases.?It is also said that PepsiCo tested using GenAI in some of its marketing initiatives. Campaign cycles were shortened from 6 to 9 months by traditional AI to 3 to 4 months by GenAI, enabling faster product launches.

The US-based company has confirmed that it will be expanding its workforce in India this year and opening a new capability center. At present, it employs close to 4,000 people in its two capability centers located in Hyderabad and Gurugram.??
India's talent is being leveraged globally, according to PepsiCO's Kanioura. "We are adding a third capability center in India this year soon... and elevating a lot of our India leadership roles as well as global leadership, positioning a lot of talent out of India." While the Gurugram facility focuses on software engineering, the Hyderabad center, which employs about 3,000 people, is concentrated on artificial intelligence (AI), process transformation, and next-generation technologies, she said.
Depending on how much AI is currently being used by a company, Kanioura projects that GenAI will increase revenue for the sector as a whole by 10% to 15%. In order to adapt to changing consumer preferences, PepsiCo plans to use GenAI for data synthesis, advanced analysis, and finding synergies across categories.
