Facebook¡¯s parent firm, Meta, began its recent round of layoffs this week on Wednesday, this time hitting engineers and adjacent tech teams. About 4,000 employees are reportedly affected by this round.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg addressed employees during a staff-wide Q&A on April 20. Mark Zuckerberg acknowledged the anger and frustration that employees may feel due to the ongoing layoffs.
He said "We're in a different world, and we needed to make some changes. But I made those calls," according to sources cited by Vox report. CEO Zuckerberg's words sound similar to what Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai had said while announcing layoffs in January, saying "We hired for a different economic reality than the one we face today."
