※RBI Kehta Hai, Jaankaar Baniye 每 Satark Rahiye". This is India*s central bank, the RBI*s campaign that encourages banking customers to get educated about safe and secure digital banking, especially in today*s digital era wherein cyber crimes are continuously rising and taking newer forms.
So, it boils down to being aware of what steps and measures you should take as a banking customer who uses digital payment modes such as UPI on a day-to-day basis in life. Here are some safety tips which can help you prevent losing your hard-earned money to UPI frauds/scams.?
Always keep in mind that you need to enter your UPI PIN only when initiating a transaction to deduct money from your account, i.e. for payments. UPI PIN is never required for receiving money.
Ensure to always verify the recipient's name when confirming the UPI ID to which payment is to be made. Refrain from making payments until proper verification is done.
When entering your UPI PIN, make sure you input it solely on the dedicated UPI PIN page of the bank or third-party verified apps such as Google Pay, Paytm, PhonePe, etc, within the payment app and not just on any page or link that opens up and seems random and suspicious.
With QR codes/scanners becoming a popular mode of fraud, it's important to remember that you need to do QR code scanning only for making payments, not for receiving money. If someone is asking you to scan the QR code to receive payment, it's a scam waiting to be done.

With the facilities of bank SMS alerts being available, why not use that to remain updated about transactions and account balance, right? So make sure you have activated this facility and also regularly check your SMS notifications. Be vigilant about any unauthorised or unexpected deductions and inform your bank as soon as possible.
Ensure you download only official UPI apps from official app stores like Google Play Store or Apple App Store to avoid being a victim of phishing attacks and losing your hard-earned money.
Another safety tip is to always double-check the UPI ID to ensure you*re not making transactions to a fraudulent account.
Never ever commit this mistake of sharing your UPI PIN with anyone, even bank officials. No bank ever asks for an OTP or PIN.
Keep in mind that fraudsters often share links to initiate a payment or fill in personal and financial information. So avoid clicking on any suspicious links and doing any transactions. In the blink of an eye, your money can be gone.
It is advisable to avoid making UPI transactions on public Wi-Fi networks, as they may not be secure. Instead, use a password-protected and secure network for making all financial transactions.??
