Fisker Inc, a company known for its state-of-the-art electric vehicles, is in the limelight again with the launch of its Ocean electric SUV prior to the CES 2020. With its debut appearance in 2018, the electric SUV garnered a lot of attention over the years and is now finally ready to hit the international markets. Interestingly, India is one of these markets.
In a recent interview, the company¡¯s chairman and CEO, Henrik Fisker confirmed that India will see the Fisker Ocean SUV eventually. The move to India is not expected to come anytime soon. But when it will, the firm will try for a local assembly of the vehicle so in order to price it competitively in the market.
Confirming the same, Fisker said, "We designed our Fisker Ocean EV to be extremely space efficient, and we can offer lower cost versions that would be very competitive in India, in the mid-market segment. Ultimately we may look at local assembly in India to lower cost further. We want to deliver the world's most sustainable premium electric vehicle to Indian consumers through our App. By going directly to our customers we save cost that we can pass on to our customers.¡±

At its promised specifications, the Fisker Ocean will probably enter India as the most capable electric vehicle in the market. Its claimed range of 480 km on a single charge beats the presently top number of Hyundai Kona, standing at 452 km.
The Ocean electric SUV promises this through an 80 kWh battery. The company also claims that the SUV will be able to go from 0 to 100 kmph within 3 seconds, a surprisingly fast acceleration. More information about the drivetrain of the vehicle is yet to be unveiled by the company.
Fisker will be retailing the Ocean electric SUV in the US in the second half of 2021. Other international markets in line are Europe and China. Currently priced at $37,499 (Rs 26.9 lakh) for the two-wheel drive variant, Fisker Ocean will be an attractive proposition for the Indian market as and when it arrives, potentially at an even more competitive price.
