As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan are concluding parts of their explosive Netflix documentary detailing their bitter split from the royal family.
When Harry and Meghan decided to leave the royal family in early 2020, they went in a very different direction than the institution. This seems to have caused tensions that are still going on.
However, Harry now reveals that it was "terrifying" to have his brother, Prince William, scream at him.
There's much more than Harry and Meghan reveal in the final episodes.
From the couple's struggles since their wedding in 2018, Meghan's deteriorating mental health, to her miscarriage in 2020, along with their ultimate decision to step down from their active roles as members of the royal family¡ªhere's what Harry and Meghan shared in the Netflix documentary.
1. Meghan appreciates her bond with Queen Elizabeth.
The duchess talked about her first royal event with Harry's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, soon after the wedding. "It was great," she said, adding that the Queen had put a blanket over both of their knees while in a car. After being so close to her own grandmother, Meghan was glad to have a new grandma figure. "I treated her as my husband¡¯s grandma," she said. "We laughed."
2. Why Harry And Meghan gave up on their duties as senior members of the royal family
Viewers will look at the couple's choice to resign from their positions as senior members working for Queen Elizabeth II in these episodes. Prince Harry stated that he, not his wife, made the decision to resign as a senior royal and leave the United Kingdom.
"I wonder what would have happened to us had we not got out when we did,"
Prince Harry also alleges that the couple experienced "institutional gaslighting."
3. Harry blames the media for Meghan's miscarriage.
Meghan Markle addressed her 2020 miscarriage in episode six. "I really wasn't sleeping and the first morning that we woke up in our new home is when I miscarried," she recalled.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry put the blame on English tabloids, specifically The Daily Mail, for his wife's miscarriage, citing her 2019 legal battle with the tabloid. "I believe my wife suffered a miscarriage because of what the (Daily) Mail did. I watched the whole thing," he said.
4. Harry and Meghan said their popularity ignited initial tensions with other royals
According to the documentary, the couple's tour of Australia was a defining moment because of the tensions it allegedly produced within the royal family due to the couple's massive popularity.
Like his mother, Diana, who married into the royal family and was liked by the people, Harry has acknowledged that Meghan's popularity had posed issues at the palace.
"The issue is when someone who¡¯s marrying in, who should be a supporting act, is stealing the limelight or doing the job better than the person born to do this. That upsets people. It shifts the balance," Harry said.
The two talked about how the media's treatment of Meghan worsened as racial stereotypes connected her to drug use, crime, and terrorism.
5. Backlash and trolling after Archie¡¯s birth
The couple reflected on how their need for privacy at the birth of their first child was met with widespread condemnation. "The amount of abuse we got ¡ for not wanting to serve our child up on a silver platter was incredible," said Harry.
In response to the narrative that the couple was selfish by not holding a conventional photo call following the birth of a royal baby, Harry recounts seeing a social media image of a couple strolling side by side with a chimpanzee with the caption: "Royal baby leaves hospital."
6. Meghan said she was ¡®fed to the wolves'
According to the duchess, she tried her best to make the royal family "proud," but ultimately, "the bubble burst" and there was an avalanche of bad press. "I realized that I wasn¡¯t just being thrown to the wolves, I was being fed to the wolves," she said. Harry stated he believes the media realized the palace wouldn't be protecting Meghan and that this led "the floodgates to open."
7. Duchess, a new mom, was dealing with constant 'death threats
The documentary briefly mentions an online hate campaign against the couple, focusing much on Meghan.
"The seriousness of what has happened to her and what ¡ happened to us, and what continues to happen to her, needs to be acknowledged," said Harry.
Meghan explains that there is a plan in place and a protocol to be followed by the security team when a tweet like "Meghan just needs to die" is spotted online.
"That¡¯s, like, what¡¯s actually out in the world because of people creating hate. And I¡¯m a mom," she said. "That¡¯s my real life."
"And that¡¯s the piece when you see it, and you go, ¡®You are making people want to kill me,¡¯" Meghan added. "It¡¯s not just a tabloid. It¡¯s not just some story. You are making me scared. Right?"
8. ¡®Terrifying¡¯ row between Harry and William in Sandringham
For a meeting to discuss the couple's future role in the family, Harry recalled visiting the royal home Sandringham. "It was terrifying to have my brother scream and shout at me, and my father says things that simply aren't true, and my grandmother quietly sits there and sort of takes it all in," said Harry.
In the final chapters of the Netflix documentary, Prince Harry alleges that William "screamed" at him over the royal split. And tensions between the two siblings only grew. Harry talked about a joint statement he and William made in January 2020 in response to a newspaper article that said William's "bullying attitude" had caused problems in the royal family.
In this episode of Harry's Netflix show, he claims he was unaware of the announcement. His exact words were, "No one had given me permission to put my name to a statement like that." "They were happy to lie to protect my brother, and yet for three years, they were never willing to tell the truth to protect us," he added.
