Heeramandi: Pakistani Writer Umera Ahmed Calls Out Makers, Says Her 2004 Book Is Featured In SLB's Show

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's latest web series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, has generated quite a stir since its premiere on an OTT platform Netflix. While everyone praised Bhansali's visual enchantment on screen, many criticized his cast's 'expressionless' acting and 'overdramatic' moments, among other things. The show, which stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharmin Segal, Taha Shah Badussha, Fardeen Khan, Richa Chadha, and others, takes place in Lahore prior to independence. However one of Aditi Rao Hydari's scenes features the Urdu novel Pir-e-Kamil, which was published in 2004.
Calling out the same, the writer took to Instagram and wrote, "So #PireKamil was written before partition or is Time Travel real? Interesting."

In addition she wrote, ¡°For those asking the context, this is a scene from Netflix series Heeramandi jismai partition say pehlay k Lahore mai mojood aik bookstore ka scene dikhaya gaya hai and look in the left book kaunsi mojood hai us bookstore mai.¡±
Reacting to it, one wrote, ¡°They just need Urdu books which are a rare (and endangered) species in India.¡±
Another added, ¡°You rocked with peer e kamil everywhere. Even Sanjay Lila bhansali forgot to remove it from his set.¡±

Shekhar Suman On His Intimate Scene In Heeramandi
Shekhar Suman, who plays Nawab Zulfikar in the series, recently addressed an intimate scene from episode 1 involving Zulfikar and Mallikajaan (Manisha Koirala).
Shekhar shared, ¡°Normally like any other actor, I just went completely prepared with my line what was given to me with my own interpretation. When the scene was just about to begin, he called me and said, ¡®I have thought of a bizarre interpretation of this. Are you open to it?' I said, ¡®Yes', and he completely turned it around and it was something that nobody had thought.¡±

He told zoom, Shekhar Suman continued, ¡°He, (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) out of the blue, he probably thought that this is done to death kind of thing. Let me do it this way. So it's about this Nawab, who is pissed drunk, is peeing out of a carriage pulled by Mallikajaan. And he is trying to, in his state of inebriation, trying to make it out with her.¡±
