After a mediocre first season, Indian Predator series is back with another horrifying tale and this time the makers have upped the ante tenfold. The latest season Indian Predator: A Diary Of A Serial Killer narrates a gory tale of a suspected Cannibal who is said to have psychological issues mixed with delusional personality traits.
Meet Ram Nirajan who goes by the alias Raja Kolander, the man who is accused of killing at least 15 people!
The story begins with the biggest expose of how Kolander brutally murdered people in the 2000s and nobody even got a whiff of his heinous crimes until he targeted a local journalist.
In this three-part series, we are made privy to the story of an Allahabad-based journalist Dheerendra Singh who goes missing one day much to the dismay of his family and colleagues. Soon after, his body is discovered in a mutilated state with his head and penis missing from the rest of his body. Police, during the course of their investigation, find out that his cell phone made a call to a random landline number in a district of Allahabad called Chheoki.
After tracing the call, it is revealed that the landline belonged to a woman named Phoolan Devi, a member of the local panchayat, who is the wife of Raja Kolander. Interestingly, he used to work in the Central Ordnance depot as a Grade-four employee in Chheoki. People around him vouched for his decent behaviour and no-nonsense attitude as he kept to himself and had a clean reputation.
Police officials then travel to the said neighborhood to investigate the whereabouts of Phoolan Devi and are able to nab Kolander who is trying to abscond in a stolen Tata Sumo. What follows next is the unfolding of a mortifying story that had rocked the nation back in the day.
Kolander along with his brother-in-law Vakshraj are properly interrogated by the police post which the duo confessed about their misdeeds.
The police is then taken to Kolander¡¯s piggery farmhouse which was the crime scene where the murder was carried out. If the murders weren¡¯t enough, it was said that Raja Kolander and Vakshraj would behead the dead bodies, boil the brains and drink that concoction. However, these claims couldn¡¯t be backed by any legit proof.
Rajat Mitra, a clinical psychologist tried to explain the psyche of serial killers like Raja Kolander.
He explained that serial killers like Kolander live in their fantastical world and exact revenge on anybody who they believed have wronged them in some way or the other. It is then revealed that Journalist Dheerendra was enquiring around about the Tata Sumo that Kolander had been using as he suspected it to be a stolen vehicle. This rubbed Kolander the wrong way and that's when he decided to kill his threat.
Interestingly, while searching his farmhouse, the police recovered a personal diary that enlisted names of many people including journalist Dheerendra Singh. That's when the audiences are told that Kolander and Vakshraj had murdered all of those people whose names were written in that diary!
We are also introduced to a man who had a close shave with Kolander but his instincts made him flee from the farmhouse and that saved his life.
A man belonging to another political family in the area was invited by Kolander to form an alliance for an upcoming district elections. At the piggery farm, he found Kolander¡¯s behavior very odd. The man in question then reveals that he took an opportunity when Kolander went to another room and fled from the farm as he suspected that something wasn¡¯t right. He couldn't help but thank his stars that he got saved, else he would have been murdered that night.
The twist in the tale comes when the accused Kolander walks into a room in prison to give an interview to the makers of the docu-series.
Throughout this segment, viewers will notice his odd behaviour and his absurd statements. He claimed to be a spiritual person who spent most of his time meditating in his sell. In fact, he requested solitary confinement as he didn¡¯t want to socialise with fellow inmates.
There is also a very interesting theory revolving around the tribal community of Kols that Raja Kolander belongs to. There¡¯s a segment where an anthropologist shares solid insights about his findings and the myths that are related to several tribal communities. He goes on to reveal that Raja Kolander, the alias name translates to 'King Of Kols'.
The crime series also features Kolander's son and daughter who strongly denied all such claims and stuck to the fact that their father was an innocent man who couldn't harm any soul let alone murder them. Interestingly, he names his kids Andolan, Jamanat and Adalat which depicts his psyche in detail.
It¡¯s safe to say that this documentary is every bit spine chilling as many have claimed on the internet. Kudos to the makers for coming out with such a thoroughly made docuseries that delves deep into the case without leaving any loose ends as opposed to the show¡¯s previous counterpart.
If you are still going back and forth on whether you should watch this season, rest assured that it¡¯s a treat for every crime series¡¯ lover.
