The second season of Delhi Crime is based on true events, similar to season 1, and in this one the Delhi Police dealt with the infamous 'Kachcha Baniyan Gang', their crimes were at their peak in the 1990s. Many states in northern India, including the capital, were damaged by them.
The gangs carried out many killings, rapes, and assaults in addition to hundreds of robberies.
What's the story of the Kachcha Baniyan Gang?
The gang gained notoriety in the 90s when they fled with cash and jewellery valued at thousands of rupees while exploiting and even killing several people during the theft.
They were covered on numerous news channels for their vicious tactics and how they mocked their victims by eating their meals after abusing them and then taking a dump in the house before fleeing.
Why The Name 'Kachha Baniyan'?
The gang's moniker was derived from how they dressed while committing thefts and killings. In some parts of India, criminal organisations still function without a specific leader.
Members of gangs often engage in attacks while just wearing their underwear. In addition to that, to cover their identity, they also wore face masks and cover their body in oil/grease so it is easier for them to escape if caught.
Kachcha Baniyan's Operational Model
The gangs frequently travel in bands of 5¨C10 members. In the afternoon, the members keep an eye out for the residents while posing as workers.
Following their successful pursuit of the home, they attempt to rob it while tying up the residents. If any members of the family attempt to flee, one of the kachcha baniyan members kills them. They frequently have guns, axes, knives, and rods in their possession.
Although it is said that the Kachha Baniyan gang members come from many communities and states, they are all tribal members.
Former Delhi Police Commissioner confirmed that 'It took three months of painstaking investigation to bring down the "kachcha-baniyan" gang'
Neeraj Kumar, a former commissioner of the Delhi Police, wrote the book that served as the inspiration for Delhi Crime Season 2. Kumar said, "During 1990 and 1991, there was a spate of house dacoities with murder in which people would break into homes and kill every inmate in their sleep. Then they would ransack the house in peace and take away all the valuables."
He further added, "It took us three months to nab the culprits. Since then, no such crimes have taken place in Delhi."
Delhi Crime Season 2 Final Verdict
In "Delhi Crime," a social point is made. Inequality, prejudice, and corruption that conveniently find a place in our society are all targeted in an attempt to poke fun at capitalism. Lata's acts are never justified in the series.
According to Delhi Crime, it is unclear why a person like Lata would do such a horrible crime. Maybe it was all a dream of her aspiration and wants, that pushed Lata to these hideous crimes. In this season, Shefali Shah, Rajesh Tailang, Anurag Arora, and Rasika Dugal have all excelled themselves.
If you appreciate a good crime drama, we heartily suggest this series. It will definitely pique your curiosity about what happens next because actual occurrences inspired it.
Delhi Crime Season 2 can be streamed on Netflix.
