We've all seen South Indian cinema break down linguistic and OTT barriers. And now Suzhal is making a splash. With Kamal Haasan's Vikram, Prithviraj's Jana Gana Mana, and Ram Charan and N.T Rama Rao Jr.'s RRR, this year has seen some of the best work yet.

1. The Writer's Touch And The Narrative

Pushkar and Gayathri, the creators of this web series, have taken their time to develop each character that will grow on the audience. And masterfully incorporate clues on occasion. It is the fantastic duo's writing that has managed to engage its audience. The eight-part series expands on an intriguing case of a missing person and at the same time, a factory that employs the greatest number of villagers is destroyed. The series takes place during the Mayana Kollai festival.

Every episode unfolds and reveals crucial information that is required to solve the mystery. However, as the story progresses with twists and turns, it manages to hold the audience in awe and suspense.

2. The Three Key Elements

Three segments, I believe, contributed to the series' popularity.

a) The first is the factory, which employs Sambalur labourers. With the factory reduced to ashes, Regina and Chakravarthy, the cops, are tasked with solving the mystery of who set fire to the factory.

b) Second, in the case of a missing minor. Nila, the daughter of labour leader Shanmugham, is missing. This case is also taken over by Regina and Chakravarthy.

c) The last aspect of the series is that it is set in a Mayana Kollai micro-festival, and the police force has been assigned to ensure the safety of the attendees.

All three aspects have been intertwined, and as the story progresses, the audience gets a taste of the essence of this story. As a result, people from all over the world have taken an interest in Suzhal and praised its author.

3. Screenplay and Themes

I became engrossed in the Suzhal tale, and like many others, I binge-watched it. The first two episodes, in my opinion, were a touch plodding and took their time getting deeper into the story. After the third episode, the series picks up speed.

Speaking of the screenplay, it keeps revealing new levels and keeps the spectators hooked.

The themes include mythological characters in contrast to the modern era. The characters can be seen celebrating the festival in perfect harmony. Suzhal is an example of skilled writing, with one's beliefs and how they differ dramatically among different people living nearby. The series is notable for its technical excellence by cinematographer Mukeshwaran and the music composed by Sam CS, both of which are liable for the series' lingering effects and maximising its value.

4. Let's Talk About Societal Issues.

The plot focuses on societal issues ranging from the predominance of patriarchal society to the symbolic importance of womanhood. It also discusses divine spiritual values and discriminatory treatment. Making the narrative a good story that incorporates all of these threads.

Like, Regina is portrayed as a tough female cop with flaws. Removing the societal barrier of a woman should be at home; can you believe it is based in a small village and she is still leading the case with Chakravarthy? She is a badass lady boss. Furthermore, like the male cop, Chakravarthy is not portrayed as a stereotypical male chauvinist.

5. The Awe-Inspiring Cast

The cast of the show includes Sriya Reddy, Kathir, Aishwarya Rajesh, Radhakrishnan Parthiban and the legendary actor Yusuf Hussein.

The performances have been lauded by both critics and audiences. Aishwarya Rajesh's performance, in particular, is a surprise factor in the sense that she is very poised and timid, but in the end, she loses her temperament and transforms into a girl filled with void, which comes as a surprise factor for many.

Nandini collapsed on her knees in shock during the final episode of the series. Guna, on the other hand, accepts the fact that he called the cops that evening to confess and turn himself in but is afraid and drops the plan. Chakravarthy discovers that Guna's last known location is close to an ancient graveyard. He arrives at his destination.

Guna confesses that "I didn't want to murder Nila." He insists that his sentiments for Nandini and Nila are genuine.

He switches sides and immediately begins mentally defrauding her by questioning her about why she never informed her father about his activities. He also questions why she abandoned Nila. Guna claims she lost him the day she left for town. All of this contributes to her emotional outburst.

Guna pretends to be the victim and steals Nandini's riffle. And has threatened to flee the situation. Nandini seizes the opportunity and shoots Guna. The cop, Chakravarthy, claims that Nandini has a lot on her shoulders and that he will take the blame. He then compares the incident to the Mayana Kollai festival, in which the Goddess Angali awoke and destroyed the sleeping demon.

Suzhal: The Vortex sends an important message about child abuse at the end of the final episode: "More than 90% of sexually abused children have been abused by someone they know and trust." Based on how things ended, we anticipate a season 2 that will focus on yet another important social issue.
