The Last Of Us Episode 6: A Long Awaited Reunion, Ellie & Joel's Bond And A Possible Death!
The Last of Us episode 6 takes things down after last week's action-packed conclusion. With a top-notch script and thoughtful performances all around, it's a wonderful chapter that nearly entirely accomplishes what it sets out to do.

The Last of Us episode 6 takes things down after last week's action-packed conclusion. With a top-notch script and thoughtful performances all around, it's a wonderful chapter that nearly entirely accomplishes what it sets out to do.
Joel and his brother Tommy's (Gabriel Luna) reunion is undoubtedly implied by the episode's title "Kin," but it also emphasises the closeness between Joel and Ellie.
(Spoilers Ahead!)
Be careful who you put your faith in!
When Joel finally connects with the brother he's been searching for months and as Joel and Ellie grow closer than ever, "Kin" turns into an episode about the relationships.
The first scene of "Kin" is a flashback to the horrifying conclusion of the last episode.
Three months later, a man (Graham Greene) returns home after hunting to discover his wife (Elaine Miles) being held at gunpoint by Joel.
When the man asks his wife why he didn't shoot the man, she puts his gun down.
When Joel mentions that he is looking for his brother, the man replies right away that he hasn't seen him. We can see that Ellie was hidden on the second level.

Joel asks the man to point out their location on a map. Joel is unimpressed by the man's response. Both the woman and the man claim to have never heard of Tommy or the Fireflies.
When Joel asks for advise on travelling west, the man replies, "Well, go east," adding that he should never travel further than the river because doing so will result in death. The man claims that although they see the bodies¡ªsome of which are diseased, some not¡ªbut never see who is beyond the river, Tommy is always gone if he is west of the river.

Joel appears shaken by this information, worried that this local couple who has been here for a while might be knowledgeable. Joel halts as they leave the couple's property, clutching his chest as though the fear had taken hold of him. Joel is reminded by Ellie when he has calmed down that all they have to do to get to Tommy and the Fireflies is cross the River of Death.
Joel and Ellie¡¯s Journey:
The two decide to cross in the morning as it is becoming dark. They camp out for the night and eat a rabbit that they stole from a couple as Joel duct tapes his shoe and enjoys a drink with Ellie from his flask.
Ellie demonstrates that she is trying to learn how to whistle and tells Joel that he should teach her how to hunt as they successfully cross a bridge over a river. After passing a dam and another river, a group of armed, masked individuals surrounds them as they ride their horses. Joel and Ellie are divided by the group when they bring out a dog they claim has the ability to sniff disease.

The dog sniffs Joel, who is unharmed, after being released go, but then growls at Ellie.
The dog approaches Ellie and begins playing with her and licking her; it's not apparent if he can tell that she is infected. Joel informs the group that he is searching for his brother.
Tommy is back!
Joel and Ellie are taken to a compound by the group, and once there, we see Jackson¡ªa bustling neighbourhood with stores, a huge Christmas tree, children playing, and a sign that perhaps life can still go on as usual despite the outbreak. Shortly after, Joel recognises his brother Tommy (Gabriel Luna) and shouts out to him, seemingly in shock at having finally located him. As soon as he sees Joel, Tommy rushes over and gives him a big hug. Joel responds that he is there to save Tommy when Tommy wonders what he is doing there.

Tommy also reveals that he is married to Maria.
Joel and Ellie are given a tour of Jackson by Tommy and Maria. Maria mentions that not many people moved here until roughly seven years ago. There are periodically raiders and infected nearby, but the residents of Jackson have learned to keep quiet and out of sight, and one way they achieve this is by avoiding radio contact.
Ellie is shown a filly by the name of Shimmer by Maria as she introduces the group to their horses at the stable. Joel and Ellie can reside in the home next to them, according to Maria.
Joel replies that Ellie is the daughter of someone in a high position in the Fireflies, and that her family is someplace out here, when Tommy inquires about her. Joel responds that there is a payment when Tommy asks whether he is doing this out of the kindness of his heart. When Joel inquires about the whereabouts of the Fireflies, Tommy replies that they have a base at the University of Eastern Colorado, which is a week's ride south but not an easy journey.
When Joel laments about his search for Tommy, Tommy responds by announcing his impending fatherhood. Tommy claims he needs to be more cautious and that he is petrified, but he believes he would make a good father.
After their private session, Maria brings Ellie to the movies to see The Farewell Girl. While there, Ellie notices Maria and Tommy talking before the two part ways. Next, in a nearby shop, Joel is seen attempting to mend his shoes.
Joel asks Tommy to keep Ellie with her during this chat, and he complies. Ellie, however, overhears this and, feeling heartbroken, advises Joel not to leave her.
Ellie is prepared to go the following morning and is waiting in her room. Tommy enters the room as she hears a knock at the door. She pauses for a second, realises he is her new travelling partner, and then they both depart. Joel is preparing a horse at the stable as they arrive. Joel then offers him a selection. Joel is clearly her choice, and she travels with him.
The bond:
Joel jokes with Ellie while instructing her on how to operate the sniper rifle. We discover later on the journey that it took them five days to travel from Jackson to the college.. When they reach a street sign with the biomedical sciences building emblazoned with a Firefly emblem, it is their first indication in a while that they are on the right road. As they make their way around the campus, they come upon a bunch of monkeys that must have escaped from a lab.
Ellie and Joel pick up voices. They observe four men exiting the building rapidly through the rear door as they look out the window while carrying guns. Once it looks like they're safe, we see that Joel was stabbed in the gut, and he pulls the weapon out.
Joel isn't doing well and falls off the horse as he travels safely down the road. Ellie rushes over to him and notices that he is bleeding profusely. She begs him to get up, and she cries, saying she doesn't know what to do without him.
The episode comes to a close like this. It will be interesting to see what happens to Joel in the next episode.
