People Think Fatima Sana Shaikh Was A 'Complete Miscast' As Indira Gandhi In Sam Bahadur
While many have praised the Dangal actress, several others feel Fatima Sana Shaikh was a complete miscast as Indira Gandhi in Sam Bahadur.
While everyone is praising Vicky Kaushal's spectacular portrayal of Sam Manekshaw in the biopic, a lot of people aren't happy with Fatima Sana Shaikh's portrayal of Indira Gandhi in Sam Bahadur.
Best known for Dangal, the actress had revealed she had inhibition if she could do this role. However, director Meghna Gulzar convinced her, she told PTI. "I feel lucky to play this role. But to be honest, it took me a while to believe I could do it. She (Meghna) was already convinced but I wasn¡¯t. We have seen in the past that so many of them have played this role before, but what¡¯s interesting in this film is I¡¯m playing a younger Indira Gandhi. We are not using prosthetics. It is slightly easier if you use prosthetics. Now, without prosthetics, I¡¯m seeing a bit of me as well. So, I had to find the spirit of the character."
To this Meghna Gulzar added, "We have done the ageing make-up (on her). When she makes those faces and has animated conversations, we would feel it might all (make-up) come out. We are like, ¡®Calm down, sit still.'"
People now have mixed reactions to Fatima Sana Shaikh's portrayal of Indira Gandhi in Sam Bahadur
War Veteran Major Amit Bansal thought her casting was a weak point of the movie.
War Veteran Major Amit Bansal tweeted, "Saw Sam Bahadur today. @vickykaushal09 has always mesmerised everyone with his acting. Portrayal of military was good. People had goosebumps Indira Gandhi was one of the strongest leaders of Indian History & putting Fatima Sheikh in her role was a weak point of the movie."
Here's what others are saying!
"My eyes hurt after watching Fatima Sana Sheikh in Indira Gandhi's role. Such bad acting that I tried to ignore her so badly throughout the movie," an X user wrote.
Another user commented on the film's casting and wrote, "Sam Bahadur¡¯s biggest weakness is its casting of the Indian leaders (technically supporting characters in the film) - terrible acting and lack of gravitas by those playing Indira Gandhi (Fatima Sana Shaikh), Nehru, and Menon..."
"The supporting cast did their part, but I feel Indira Gandhi's character could have been played by a much better actress than Fatima. Charu Shankar, who played Indira Gandhi in Rocket Boys, would be a great choice, but Fatima managed to do a decent job here. Overall great," read another tweet.
"Fatima was a complete miscast for Indira gandhi. I get that her resemblance to priyanka gandhi might've been a factor in casting but her indira had no personality whatsoever. I can only imagine what a good actor would've done to elevate the sam-indira scenes," wrote a user.
