Sonam Kapoor Reveals Her Dad Anil Wasn't Consulted For Mr India Trilogy, Calls It Disrespectful
Sonam Kapoor has hit out at the makers of Mr India remake. She stated that neither her father Anil Kapoor and nor the director of the original film Shehkhar Kapur was consulted before the project was announced. She called it disrespectful.
Did you know that the original script of Mr India was written by Salim-Javed?
Boney Kapoor had brought the script to Shekhar Kapur, but he chose to improvise it. So much so, that he once claimed that he didn't even read the entire script and that the character of Mogambo was written after the shooting had already begun. Who shall be credited for the idea and script of the movie, then?
This question has irked a lot of people apparently, especially after filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar of Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai fame, announced that he is making a trilogy on the "iconic character loved by everyone".
First, it was Shekhar Kapur who lashed out at the Zee Studios, which is backing the epic trilogy Mr India. Now, Sonam Kapoor has also hit out at the makers.
She stated that neither her father Anil Kapoor and nor the director of the original film Shehkhar Kapur was consulted before the project was announced. She called it "disrespectful."
¡°A lot of people have been asking me about the MR. India remake. Honestly my father didn¡¯t even know the film was being remade, we found out about it through social media when @aliabbaszafar tweeted. It¡¯s quite disrespectful and underhanded if it is true, since no one bothered to consult my father or Shekhar uncle, two people who played a major role in making the film what it was and is.
"It¡¯s sad because that was a film made with heart and hard work and is very sentimental to my father, beyond commerce and announcements, it¡¯s a part of his legacy. I should hope that respect for someone¡¯s work and contribution is still as important to us as a big weekend at the box office (sic)¡±, she wrote on social media.
Earlier, Javed Akhtar had slammed Shekhar Kapur for being upset about Mr India remake.
¡°Today Shekhar Kapur is offended because no one has consulted him about this new project. Why should they? They may or may not be morally bound to inform the people involved with the original film. But they are not legally bound to do so. And where was his sense of creative outrage when he had disregarded the bound script of Mr India that we had given to producer Boney Kapoor and Shekhar? Shekhar chose to do his own thing back then. Today when other people are doing the same he is upset," he was quoted as saying by Asian Age.
The movie has only been announced and it has has embroiled itself in so many controversies.
