Suriya and his wife Jyotika both won National Film Awards on Friday night, making it a memorable day for both of them. The Best Actor award went to Suriya for Soorarai Pottru.
He was also recognized for producing the 2020 hit.
The project's co-producer, Jyotika, was also honored because the movie won Best Film Feature Film. During the ceremony, Suriya took pictures of Jyotika as she accepted the award and her husband as he appeared on stage to receive the Best Actor trophy.

Several awards were presented to Soorarai Pottru at this year's National Film Awards. Suriya's performance in the movie earned him the Best Actor award. Aparna Balamurali was awarded the best actress for the movie.
The awards for Best Feature Film, Best Screenplay, and Best Background Score went to Soorarai Pottru. Sudha Kongara directed the film.
Suriya and Jyotika, co-stars of such films as Poovellam Kettuppar, Uyirile Kalanthathu, Kaakha Kaakha, Perazhagan, Maayavi, June R, and Sillunu Oru Kaadhal, tied the knot in 2006.
They have a son named Dev and a daughter named Diya.
In Nerrukku Ner, Suriya made his acting debut. Nandha, Kaakha Kaakha, Ghajini, and the Singam trilogy are a few of his finest works. He recently appeared in the critically praised films Jai Bhim and Soorarai Pottru.
He also appeared briefly in Madhavan's Rocketry: The Nambi Effect and Kamal Haasan's Vikram. He will also appear for a brief cameo in the Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru, which stars Akshay Kumar.
The 68th National Film Awards for the year 2020 were held at New Delhi¡¯s Vigyan Bhawan on Friday. President Draupadi Murmu conferred all the winners with the prestigious award.
Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur was also present at the event and congratulated the winners.
The Best Actor Award for 2020 is shared between Suriya for ¡®Soorarai Pottru¡¯ and Ajay Devgn for the Hindi movie ¡®Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior¡¯.
Actress Aparna Balamurali bagged the Best Actress award. Manoj Muntashir has won the award for Best Lyrics for the Hindi movie ¡®Saina¡¯.
Madhya Pradesh won the ¡®Most Film Friendly State award while Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh got Special Mention.
¡®The Longest Kiss¡¯ by Kishwar Desai won Best Book on Cinema for the year while Malayalam book ¡®MT Anunahvangalude Pusthakam¡¯ and Odia book ¡®Kali Paine Kalira Cinema¡¯ won a special mention.
