Vir Das Takes A Dig At Big Stars For Keeping Mum On Police Brutality, Calls Them Opportunistic
Vir Das Takes A Dig At Bollywood 'Superstars' For Their Silence On Police Brutality, Call Them Opportunist!
The protests in several parts of the country snowballed into bloodshed after a police crackdown on the students of Jamia Milia and Aligarh Muslim University following their protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act.
The police entered Jamia Millia Islamia University after a protest against the amended Citizenship Act spiraled out of control on Sunday evening. Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap was among many actors and voices from the entertainment industry.
He had quit Twitter in August but returned today, only to make his voice heard.
Actors like Dia Mirza, Rajkummar Rao, Swara Bhasker and Akshay Kumar too gave their two cents on the brutality. However, Vir Das is still stumped to see the silence of several megastars who would otherwise jump and grab such stories to make films on these!
He took to Twitter to slam celebrities over their deafening silence.
Vir highlighted the opportunistic trait of actors who would do all it takes to make a film on the issue but would remain spineless in expressing themselves.
A large section of the entertainment industry is not going to stand with you, and I'm sorry about that. They're gonna try and make a profitable movie about you someday though.

Not just Vir, but Article 15 and Fan actor Sayani Gupta too urged actors to speak up against the violence on students. Shah Rukh Khan, who is also an alumni of Jamia Milia University is being targeted on social media for being tight-lipped on the matter.
