11 Movies In Bollywood That Wowed Us With Jaw-Dropping VFX And Unforgettable Scenes

If you jaws dropped seeing a real-life tiger on a shop in Life Of Pi or James Bond in Skyfall, it always made us wonder if Bollywood would reach this pinnacle of technology this soon.

However, little would you know that the history of Indian VFX in Indian films goes back to silent films but it achieved greater heights only in the past decade.

You may think some scenes were real and close to your heart, only to realise that was all VFX. Here's taking a look at 11 such Bollywood films that made us believe how accurate VFX in our country is now. #ThankGodForTechnology

1. Padmaavat

Earlier known as Padmavati, the Deepika Padukone starrer faced a lot of controversies before it saw a finally release date on January 25th. Complying with the request of Rajput Karni Sena, who pointed out that Rani Padmini did not dance and flaunt her mid-riff, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali came out with a plan. Instead of shooting the song all over again, the movie went under edit, one final time and had a sanskaari mid-riff in place.

In portions, where Deepika's exposed waist can be seen has now been covered using a saffron cloth, but it's actually VFX. Mind you, it's saffron.

2. Tiger Zinda Hai

Anyone who has seen the film knows that the wolf vs Salman Khan scene was the most thrilling one. While the wolves used in the movie were real, the fight between the two was a VFX one.

Even the chase sequence where Salman is escaping on a sledge has been tied from all sides to ensure safety first. And the scene where they let the wolf take a long jump into the car also had VFX involved.

Unlike others, he would have chosen to shoot it in a studio but this was as close to reality as it could get, combined with genuine VFX, of course.

3. Fan

Just like most of you, we were also wondering how Shah Rukh Khan pulled off a double role by looking completely different in Fan. It bagged the best film with VFX effects at IIFA that opened doors for many others to use technology.

The VFX division of Shah Rukh¡¯s own production house Red Chillies was behind the animation and visual effects generated to make Fan. Watch this video to know how they reduced SRK's body, nose, height to make him leaner and younger.

4. Dhoom 3

Aamir Khan played a double role in Dhoom 3 and that was beautifully shot with accuracy. Almost all the action and growing up scenes were shot with extensive help from the visual effects department. And it screamed precision.

The Salman Khan starrer where he played a negative role for the first time left all his fans in awe of him. Not just that, when the movie released its first trailer, Salmaniacs went gaga over the train shot where Salman barely manages to escape on the bicycle in style.

Since Shah Rukh Khan is the pioneer who got VFX into Bollywood, he ensures that he uses it in all his movies that require heavy duty graphics.

This Shah Rukh Khan starrer movie that grossed Rs 410 crore created many seamless complex CGI transitions complimenting the scenes and the storyline.

Visual effects play a significant role in film-making. Often, the locations you see in the movies are actually green background scenes which are also called the chroma. In order to avoid travel, filmmakers usually create an outdoor look right inside their studio. And this Deepika Padukone's shot is one such example.

Red Chillies VFX collaborated with Krrish 3 to create the coolest sci-fi movie. The movie takes the story of the superhero Krrish, played by Hrithik Roshan. Hrithik is seen taking on evil mutants and save the world from destruction in his superhero avatar which obviously is all VFX.

Everytime I saw Prem and Raja hugging each other, it looked real than ever. The movie which came back as a remake after 20 years couldn't have asked for better VFX.

Speaking to Mahesh Baria, film¡¯s overall visual effects supervisor, he said, "With newer technology and motion control cameras, it¡¯s now possible to duplicate the same moment any number of times. The angle and position are all locked in a computer, so a situation can be recreated identically, multiple times.¡±

11. Baahubali

Keeping the best one for the last, the Prabhas starrer was a rarity in Indian cinema: a big-budget action film with 'too good to be true' special effects. The fictional movie supported by heavy duty VFX became one of the highest grosser films only proving how audience really believes in good cinema.

From bull fight sequences, grand entries to mega war, Baahubali hired more than 15 VFX companies to give it the large scale that it achieved. From the opening shot with the lotus fire, the entire Mahishmati city, the new kingdom with the foliage are just some of the things that were nothing but VFX.
